What are Theme Camps?
Nowhere is a festival that is defined by the people who participate in it and Theme Camps are the dynamic heart and soul of this definition. Theme Camps are a group of people who have joined together to provide an interactive space and/or activity as both a gift to the Nowhere community and an expression of the whole group’s creativity.

Why do people join/form Theme Camps?
People form and join Theme Camps to pool together resources, share workload and achieve something greater than that which they could have achieved on their own, not to mention the extra feeling of community and the increased social interaction they get from the people they camp with and the people their camp interacts with.

This can be through building together, creating together, cooking together, providing together and generally sharing the load across a myriad of people.

The benefits of joining another’s theme camp are also numerous ranging from the logistics in bringing enough food and water to meeting a whole new band to be inspired by and to inspire. There are no barriers to joining theme camps and all are open to new people whether experienced or not, whether skilled or not.

What responsibilities does a Theme Camp have?
As a Theme Camp you are of course expected to adhere to the same principles all individuals are required to. But as a Theme Camp, this can require considerably more work.

This especially applies to the self-sufficiency principle in that theme camps should not expect NOrg to provide for them. A theme camp creatively is very much your own venture and this thus comes with responsibility for your own venture.

NOrg can offer advice and guidance if you require it but camps need to be fully self reliant in terms of food, water, transport, storage and especially Leave No Trace.
The motto “Pack it in, pack it out” still very much applies and it is your responsibility to ensure the removal of all your waste, recycling, etc. When Nowhere leaves site, there should be no trace of us ever having been there and it is everyone’s personal responsibility not just to organise this for their camp but for themselves as well.

Why register your Theme Camp?
Well it allows you early access to the site so you’ll have time to work on your project/camp before the festival starts. It also allows you to liaise with the Theme Camp Coordinator to work out exactly where your camp would be most suitably located. We can also publicise any activities or events your camp may be holding and even find you new members through the Nowhere Newsletter and Wiki website.
