Two weekends ago 8 of the crew visited Castejon de Monegros to meet with local officials (the Guardia Civil environmental dept, the Vice-President of Monegros, representatives from the Town Hall in Castejon) to discuss N2k8. The major upshot of this is that we will NOT be on the same site as last year. We will however be in the same region on a site which has many stunning qualities to it and if anything provides more of a blank canvas for us to CREATE our community. As in previous years the exact location is only sent to ticket holders a month before the event. We do not sell tickets on the gate and do not want people just showing up looking for one, but the new location is within 20 minutes of last year's site.
We made serious progress on our search for a year round workshop so we can begin pre-production work in a secure location and hopefully have our own storage facility too... more on this later.
We ate strange pizza, mushroom rice pudding, tested Ground Anchors, drank beer on beautiful rocks and made good headway in a lot of the pre-planning work to ensure that everything runs smoothly in July.
Oh, and we all got pretty excited about what we're going to make this year.
Hasta Julio, amigos.
Esteban
Come one, come all to the first ever Nowhere village meeting on 19 April in London.
This is your chance to find out everything you want to know about Nowhere. It's also a chance to have your say about Nowhere and how it's organised. Even if you're only thinking about coming to Nowhere, you should make it to this meeting. The idea is that this will be a lively information exchange – you'll get to ask and answer questions, meet people, find out stuff, oh and there'll be a party at the end, of course.
Be seen, be heard, be part of the village atmosphere at The George, Corner of Glenarm and Glynn Roads, Hackney, London on Saturday 19 April 2008.
Meeting and information exchange: 3–6pm
Burning Man & Nowhere films: 6–9pm
Arockalypse fundraiser and band night: 9pm til sometime Sunday
Book your flights, reserve your trains, hit up your friends for accommodation, skip work, lie about your essays, and don't miss it!
Ruby is looking for volunteers who would like to be part of the Middle of Nowhere construction team. You must:
*Be able to be on site a week early
*Have some kind of basic construction/carpentry experience
*Want to be part of a close-knit team and work well with others
*Want to work hard!
This is an opportunity to be involved in a really exciting project: Nowhere's biggest structure and communal area, which will have a new design and new team of people working on it this year. Noah is designing the structure and will be supervising a group of enthusiastic, hardworking individuals who will help build it. Our hopes are high, our dreams are big and we WILL make shit happen! Come and join us in this exciting endeavour and be part of our team! Please contact either Ruby (rubylunamay(at)yahoo.co.uk) or Nurse (drunkennurse(at)hotmail.com)
If you can build, slap sunscreen on people, rig electrics and lighting, make things look pretty, make people feel good, cook, run a kitchen, co-ordinate performers, organise art, dig, help people look their best, check tickets, count heads, speak languages, welcome, or anything else for that matter, we want to hear from you. Volunteering is the best way to get to know people, learn new skills, and (some say) it guarantees more sex. So drop us a line at volunteer(at)goingnowhere.org and let us know what you'd like to do, when you're arriving, when you're leaving and if you have any specific skills. We'll put you in touch with the right people and make a fuss of you.

Ruby is starting to gather scraps of fabric to recycle and use for decorating Middle of Nowhere and would be very grateful if people could save up any fabric they have left over or lying around at home. Some will be used for pillows and some will be cut into 50cm x 30cm triangles so even small bits of fabric would be useful. Also if anyone comes across any large quantities of cheap/free foam/wadding that can be used for seating, please get in touch. She is still looking for volunteers with some crafting experience who are interested in helping to decorate middle of nowhere. Contact rubylunamay(at)yahoo.co.uk.
If you have an announcement to make, want to let the world know about your big art project, Theme Camp or other such fabulousness you have going on at Nowhere, please send it in to me for the next Nowhere Newsletter. That is to: karlachameleon(at)goingnowhere.org
Also, the Wiki is a great place to make your plans and strut your stuff. Check out the home page and recently updated pages to keep in touch with what is going on. http://wiki.goingnowhere.org/2008/HomePage
