Small camping gas (ie Camping Gaz style) containers: Most hardware shops (ferreterias) or the plumbing department of Leroy Merlin or Brico Depot. Cost: about 1 euro. For larger butane gas bottles see section below.
Cash and carry: Makro (/Paul Vazo has card) in /Zaragoza. Makro say you can use a non-Spanish Makro card to get a day pass («pase de día»).
Basic food: Buy from Sarinena (has a selection of supermarkets) or Castejon de Monegros (very, very basic...)

We spent 40 euros/day on diesel at the end of 2005 doing a field trip (driving on tracks all day).
Don't forget to clean car before returning (there's a place a few hundred meters towards the village with a jet wash).
Normal car/van hire:
National/Atesa allow free drop-offs in another city. Works out much cheaper if you book using “Weekend Plan talones” from Halcon Viajes or Viajes Ecuador (high street travel agents) or via the internet. Example summer 2006 prices:

6kg butane (butano) bottles can be purchased in Repsol, Campsa and Petronor service stations. Larger (12.5kg) bottles require a contract to be signed. A small deposit must be paid on the bottle. 6kg of butane costs about 5 euros plus deposit on bottle. Propane (propano) needs a contract signed and “house visit” (18 euros). 11kg gas costs 8.17 euros. Deposit on bottle is 3 euros.
