Nowhere Newsletter – 2006.02 – May 4th 2006

Going No Where? in 64 days!

Holy crap! 64 days? That's so close I can feel the Spanish sun on my face! The permits for the land have been approved, so we're all set to go – there's just the small matter of getting everything to the site, building it and forming a community for the weekend. From ticket sales so far, we're looking set to be more than double the size of last year, so I reckon we can call ourselves a temporary village now...

It's a bumper newsletter this time round, with loads of important stuff. So read on and find out what's in store for this year, check out the calls for volunteers and projects and don't forget to buy your tickets soon!

Are you as excited about Nowhere 2006 as I am?

In this issue:

SETUP AND CLEANUP CREWS NEED YOU – ESPECIALLY IF YOU CAN MAKE A GOOD CUP OF TEA...

Setup starts Monday 3rd July. So if you'd like to see Nowhere emerge from the bare ground and help make it all happen we want to hear from you. We need 6–8 people to help with construction, and one or two people to keep the crew fed and watered so they don't keep having to stop and cook, and importantly don't end up dehydrated...

We really need a few more people dedicated to the clean-up, who will stay till Tues / Weds? (11th/12th) and help put things into storage or drive to the “punto limpio” (or the dump...) and so on.

And on top of the satisfaction that you'll get out of this, you'll get free meals during the setup/clean-up! And as of last week a certain budget airline had return flights from London to Zaragoza for 2p if you extended the stay to cover setup and cleanup! So come on UK volunteers!

Just a quick reminder though – early arrivals are welcome for helping set up, not for a party – if you're on site early you'll need to be constructive and helpful... Well, we wouldn't want Central Camp to be half finished when Nowhere starts, would we?

Email Santi, volunteer@goingnowhere.org if you're up for helping.

SPRUCING UP THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE

Last year the Middle of Nowhere was a great success made by Pete and his mighty helpers... And this year the plan is to repeat it with some fabulous enhancements, and some of them we'll need you to help with:

http://wiki.goingnowhere.org/2006/CentralCamp

PERFORM!

The Middle of Nowhere is the multi-purpose multi-tasking heart of Nowhere, and it plays host to all kinds of activities – your activities... Last year we had morning yoga sessions, performance art, film, plus massage and shibari workshops. It's open to all participants of Nowhere to add their thing, so if you've been desperate to teach people your expert way with making fairy wings let us know and we'll give you the space to do it!

Just to make sure things don't clash we're co-ordinating use of the space with a loose schedule, so email Neko & Snowtorm at performance (at) goingnowhere (dot) org

NO-PO OFFICIALLY OPENS!

Over to Drunkennurse for the low-down on this one:

This year, boys and girls, Nowhere will have a mail service.

I am establishing No-Po, a mail serivce bringing mail to Nowhere and providing a mail delivery service on site. Everyone likes getting post, so the citizens of Nowhere will also be able to mail each other but also to send mail off site. That's right: a mail service from Nowhere to the Real World will be in operation!

Every participant of Nowhere will be gifted a Nowhere prestamped postcard and encouraged to think of someone round the world – either a loved one or the operator of the world's most remote lighthouse off the coast of Australia (his adress will be freely available fromthe No-Po!). A special postmark rubber stamp will be commissioned so all mail will be stamped from Nowhere.

No-Po volounteers are required... We need mail bitches: mail will need to be sorted and prepared for delivery. Mail bitches will also help in setting up the mail collection point, helping with decor and just being the rock stars behind the Nowhere postal service.

Wanna be part of a truly kick-ass art project? There is more to come but some of it is secret and will only be revealed to the mail bitches... Email drunkennurse (at) hotmail (dot) com

BURROW PROJECT CALLS FOR PARTICIPANTS...

And on the 3rd year of Nowhere it was said:

“LET THERE BE BURROWY GOODNESS!”

Nowhere 2006 will witness the creation of the Burrow Project Theme Camp, a tactile, sensory experience through the overground to the underground, overt to covert, light to dark. Encompassing different zones in the one network, the burrow allows you to find the space most suited to your mood, desires and importantly…height!

The Burrow network is comprised of 3 linked geodesic domes each with a distinctly different atmosphere, we need your help to create those atmospheres. Do you have some art that needs a home, do you want to hold an event but need a venue, is there a cheeky wee project that is looking for the Burrow touch, then go to http://wiki.goingnowhere.org/2006/BurrowProject for more information and enter your details in the table.

Citizens we are also looking to increase our colony and to that end are recruiting from the finest Nowhere has to offer, we offer potential Burrowers amazing prospects; unrivaled nesting locations, group preening session and an incredibly diverse social heirarchy. Intrigued? Then go to http://wiki.goingnowhere.org/2006/BurrowProject for more information and how to contact us.

...AND PRESENTS BURNING SPORRAN!

You are cordially invited to a a feckin kick ass ceilidh (pronounced kay-lay) this year on the playa. Like dancing? You'll love this. This is the old fashion grab a partner, swing them round, scream “yyyeeeeeeeooooooowwwww!”, twirl your skirts affair.

There will be kilts, tartan, obscure scottish dances contrived to disorientate and if you are early enough some quality whisky. If anyone has any dances they would like to teach everyone get in touch or if you would like to help teach others then come along early and we will get you prepared.....well as prepared as the rest of us anyway.

It will take place on the Thursday Evening at the Burrow, in the Outer Dome. I hear there may be whisky, tartan and the possibility of serious injury galore.

WELCOME AT THE GATES

Shhh! Don't tell anyone I mentioned this, but I hear on the grapevine that getting into Nowhere ain't gonna be as simple as rolling in and pitching a tent... If you've been to Burning Man you'll be used to stripping naked and tolling the bells, but it sounds like the Gates of Nowhere will be *NOTHING LIKE THAT* We wouldn't want it to be so simple, would we? You have been warned!

TELL US ABOUT YOUR PROJECTS

Youlia Melia? sends a shout out to everyone bringing a project to Nowhere... The list is growing, and we want to fit it all in somewhere. Youlia Melia? is co-ordinating placement of significant structures and performance areas, and we've got space on the wiki for you to put all the details so other participants can see what's brewing for this year.

So go online and add your project to http://wiki.goingnowhere.org/2006/CurrentProjects so we can see what you're planning for us...

Also add the details for placement to http://wiki.goingnowhere.org/2006/SiteLayout so we've got a space to fit you in.

REMEMBER TO BUY YOUR TICKETS!

Just a little reminder that the 60 Euro passes for Nowhere are only on sale until the end of May, after which only 80 Euro passes are available. Head on over to http://www.goingnowhere.org/Tickets to buy yours.

SUPPORTING THE LOCAL COMMUNITY

We've got the permits for this year and we're determined to make sure that the local residents get something out of Nowhere as well, and not just lots of people driving through their villages. We'll keep you informed of how you can help us make a good impression by buying locally, and nearer the time we'll be sending out details of local businesses, what they can provide and when they'll be open.

WHERE ARE YOU FROM?

To keep us up to date on where people are coming from, why not email the Nowhere mailing list and give a shout out? We've got people from various parts of Spain, the UK, Ireland, Germany, Switzerland, Belgium and France – and if you're from anywhere else we'd love to hear from you off-list by email to snowstorm (at) goingnowhere (dot) org so we can discuss getting more cool people from your area involved. We're having some cards printed, so we could send you some of those to give to people you'd like to bring to Nowhere...

That's all folks – until next time...

The Nowhere Newsletter was brought to you by the Crew, edited by Snow Storm?. If you've got anything to put in the next one please email it in to snowstorm (at) goingnowhere (dot) org.
