The Lamp Lighters are a group of people who ceremonially light all of the lanterns on the Playa. They carry lamps and torches around at dusk and dress like the funny Twelve Tribe cultists of Brixton. You could read a bit more about the history of them on the Playa at

There is need for a lamplighting group at Nowhere – It could be YOU.
This year I (that is Yulia, allow me to introduce myself) intend to incorporate Reading Illuminators as a part of the Lamp Lighting project.
Idea is simple: a pretty bench and a light post.. romantic.. ah.. I know.. I will post the sketches shortly..
And the intention?.. Trivial: to illuminate Nowhere a bit, so that non of us can break our noses by accident.. So a number of Reading Illuminators in the strategic points as a part of that...
We need friendly creatures to be put on the light posts at Nowhere! They could be anything, smiling gruggons that wrap their tales around the posts, guffy birds to seat on top, climing lips.. whatever strikes your fancy within the surrial and barrock friendlinnes...
Creatures could be made of any material: meatal, plastics, fabrick.. Size will depend on the creature, but i roughly suggest a size of an overfead cat :)
If you are interested in making a creature or more, please send your adea with a quick sketch or example by the end of Easter to . there will be a short selective prosses by lamplighting group.. we will announce the outcome by the end of April..
Oh.. the ritual.. As we all know, there is no Light without Lamp Lighters... and yes, this profession is almost as old as (you know what). There are beautiful rituals that surround lighting up spaces.. So that said.. I do not particularly fancy to replicate the Lamp Lighters of the Playa.. Or do I?.. Bring on your opinions on what you think this should be like..
The outcome of Reading Illuminators and Lamp Lighters at Nowhere somewhat depends on how much you personally could participate.. If you are interested, please contact Yulia (A.K. YUlia/MElia, as in ME & YOU) at
Hugs..
